San Antonio Time;
Time to Boogie, Alamo Style With Boots…
This is Officer Lee
Groinman. That’s Right Washington’s Most Excitable Cop…
A happy one too! Cal just lost to Texas in
the Holiday Bowl and I’ve got the night off…Many a folk would use that
tired old logic of rooting for the Pac 10, err Pac 12 team. I didn’t
drink into that logic years ago, and still haven’t tasted that flavor of
Kool-Aid. Cal can just go lick my socks and Coach Tedford can go kiss
slugs, ex duck remember? We whoop Cal and Tedford on the field, then he
steals our recruits like a two-bit thief in the night. Take that, Cal…
So the Bowl Season is off to a good start.
Nice to see Brendon Bigelow not do much. As we all know, Bigelow spurned
our UW Dawgs, which just happened to win last year’s Holiday Bowl. You
see that one Brendon?
Of course last year the losers of the
Holiday Bowl were the Nebraska Corn Huskers, a team which clearly just
wanted to show up in San Diego in time to hand the Bowl trophy over to
Washington.
The homesickness for Lincoln Nebraska in
late December is never easy to overcome…Or so I’ve been told on the
message boards…
Well Texas saw fit to leave their home of
Austin and Leave Cal as the new losers of the Holiday Bowl. Maybe it was
Cal this year that was disappointed to be in San Diego, could be, but I
can’t imagine missing Berzekley California, at any time of the year,
makes Nebraska look like home.
But I am happy to see Bigelow playing after
his two knee surgeries; sometimes poetic justice is just so poetic.
There’ll be more to come too. Speakin’ of knee surgeries, really excited
for Deontae Cooper’s return, can next year come soon enough?
A buddy of mine told me that Cooper advised
Chris Polk to pack it in for the NFL. Deontae wants Chris to leave the
UW as the starting running back, not some back-up…
The Bowl Season, a break in the lull of the
recruiting season. I now become a fan of teams like Oklahoma State, and
who the hell is playin’ Ucla? Illinois? I better go look that one up…I
really just can’t get into that “root for the Pac crap”. Now Jim Mora is
the new bad guy on the block, he must have read Tedford’s book…
Yeah well ya’ know a Pac 12 win makes us
look better to those East coast voters when it comes to rankings and
such, which is what some say…
Until it comes time to do the actual
voting, the Heisman trophy, or some team in LA the only exception…
Screw the East Coast voters I say! I’d
rather see Jim Mora take a shot in the chops while coach Demetrice
Martin ‘Meat’ plays with his soft and pliable cushion ‘D’. My Lord, that
ain’t a pretty picture…
So now we got the Alamo Bowl. A Texas treat.
I’d sure like to trade this one for that ’95 Sun Bowl. The mere thought
of that ’95 Sun Bowl can give me ice-butt-cakes, and we lost too. My
buddy went home with a Senorita Pole-Dancer; he went unheard of
for two days. We found him later out in the mountain desert chopping
firewood and pumpin’ well-water…
As Archie Bunker once said, “Those Were the
Days!!”
But how I do digress…
Speakin’ of getting’ kicked in the chops,
seems we took one with the Puyallup Kid. I was raised in the Puyallup
Valley. As kids, we had a term we used for other kids we picked on and
abused, and we were pretty good at it too, as I recall, in this, the
special Holiday Season…The term?
“Puey-Allup Kid”.
Good luck guy. I worked construction for a
while. Here’s another term for ya’ Scott. Measure twice, cut once…
More recruiting news to follow, it’s the
time of the season…
I’ve got some advice to players who may live
in Tacoma or Everett. I too once had opportunities to leave the area, to
stretch my legs so to speak, to taste those ‘greener pastures’.
And I did…
Those ‘greener pastures’ were laced with cow
poop, some call it ‘manure’ others call it “cow sleet.” The stuff all
tastes the same, results likewise…
Ya’ know, the good thing about livin’ in Tacoma, Orting
or Ellensburg, you can go to the UW, be away from home, and still go
home again, and only if you want to, and when
you want to…
Priceless…
Unless you live in LA…
A bit Off-Topic here, but I see where Mike
Leach, the newly appointed WSU Cougar Pirate, or Coach as it is, has
decided not to retain wide receiver coach Mike Levenseller. I’ve known
Coach ‘Levy’ Levenseller for years, since our high school days when we
had to kick his butt as a matter of routine.
I’ll say this. May this be the first of the
‘Pirate’s’ many mistakes…Let the fun begin…
Alamo Bowl anyone?
Much has been made about our opponent, the
Baylor Bears and their Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin the third,
or “RG3”. He looks good in a suit too. This ‘RG3’ is surely a ‘God, is
he a ‘Sir’ yet? And the Husky defense sucks, so this is just an audition
for “RG3’s” NFL’s draft status…
Or so goes our Northwest and National
media’s thinkin’, outside of some guy on the Kitsap Peninsula, and yes,
I lived there once too…
Now a media folk or two have even gone so
far as to mention that Baylor’s defense is worse than the UW’s, mercy
sakes! Never let the facts get in the way of a good story line!
The fact is, Alameda Ta’amu hasn’t felt
better all year, remember the broken bone in his hand, the stinkin’
cast, the naggin’ injuries, and now the new, and the old stand-by
doubters?
The Alamo Bowl, Ta’amu’s big payday… RG3 and
Baylor? Meet Ta’amu and friends…
How ‘bout Quinton Richardson just shadows
RG3? No pass coverage…
And oh by the way, we have an offense too,
just so you’ll know…
Look for Alameda Ta’amu to give a repeat
performance of his game in last year’s Holiday bowl. He has to, it’s his
swan song, his last college game, and his big pay day…Baylor likes to
roll the dice on offense, Ta’amu must be the dealer…
Washington will pull out the stops too, a
half-back pass with a couple of fourth down conversions. Maybe a fake
punt. This one will be fun.
Chris Polk goes for 200 yards, and two
scores with dreams of the all-time UW rushing record dancing in his
head...Polk keeps RG3 on the bench. Erik Folk seals the deal and ruins
the Heisman ‘coming out party’. And yup, yesterday at Freddie’s? I
bought the UW “Alamo Bowl” tee-shirt. A call to my bookie in Reno
to follow…
“GO DAWGS!!”
A barn-burner of a game, of epic
proportions, perfect for kids of all ages, from Puyallup, and
Lakewood…All of Pierce County? And all points in-between, includin’
Everett.
See ya’ later Keivarae Russell. I now may
need a soda or two. Keivarae just made his announcement while I was in
the John, never a good omen…sick already. Nice timing. The Dawgs in San
Antonio could give a rip, them and billions of Chinese…
Lord Have Mercy…I
think hear Papa Murphy’s Pizza callin’. The Cowboy Special I presume…
GRUMBLINGS:
Well now, some coaching turnover at the other UW. Wisconsin. Turn around
is fair play in both Love and Football, no? Gotta love recruiting, or
not…Hang on folks, miles to go before we sleep. Yup, I’d take Walker
Williams any day. Let’s hope he still choses the right UW…A buddy of
mine said he has a Washington Letter Of Intent in his nightstand…Yup, it
just dawned on me. Here it is, another Bowl game on my day off. In the
past 13 months the Dawgs have had three night games on my day off,
Thursday night specials if you will. Groinman here is undefeated on
these Thursday night specials when wearing a new tee. Better double down
that bet. Life is good. Be it so…
THE FEATURED DAWG OF THE
WEEK!
MEET AMBER!
AMBER
was brought into rescue as a street-walker but she knows her manners, an
elegant Lady if there ever was one. She doesn’t even counter surf. An
indoor-outdoor girl. Loves to walk in the park or on a beach, or just
the alley out back, not choosy. AMBER can be
